Link Building

Your search engine rankings can be boosted quite significantly by increasing your site’s "Reputation" or PageRank . Reputation is affected by the number (and quality) of sites linking to your site. These links are called your "In-Bound Links".

IN-BOUND LINKS COUNT AS A "VOTE"

It is becoming more popular for the search engines to increase your site’s rankings for any given keyphrase if you are perceived as a more reputable site. Reputation of your site is determined by how many popular sites have a web link pointing to your site. Think of it as each web page casting a vote of popularity for the pages it links to. But each page's vote is split between all the links going out of it. Also, all votes are not equal. For example, if a very popular web site such as nbc.com was pointing to your web page, it would boost your Reputation Score considerably more than a new site.

Also to take into consideration is how many other links are on the web page that is pointing to you. Each web page can only cast a vote for so much popularity, which is split between all the links on that page. In example, if nbc.com was linking to your site from within a page that also linked to 900 other sites, your Reputation Score would be boosted either very little or not at all.

HOW LINK REPUTATION AFFECTS RANKINGS

First, here is an over-simplified example of how a search engine works:

  1. Your web page is read by the search engine and stored for future evaluation. This occurs either sometime after your site is discovered (either through a link or through a site submission). Thereafter, the engine will read your pages on a timely basis such as daily or monthly depending on your reputation, and how often your page has changed in the past.
  2. The search engine evaluates each stored web page for all words and word combinations within the web page. For each set of words and phrases on your web page, it assigns a "base score" for every phrase on your page.
  3. Now consider your reputation as an amplifier or multiplier that adjusts your base score. If your competitor and you end up with approximately the same base score for a certain phrase, but your site has a better Reputation score (i.e. more sites linking to you instead of his), your site will end up with a higher overall score and come up before the competitor's.
  4. Now when a search engine user types in a search phrase, the results (which have already been figured out in advance) are displayed. This ’pre-indexing’ is why the search engine is so fast in returning its results...all the work for every possible search phrase has already been done in advance.

Your Reputation Ranking is so important because it can affect rankings for several keyphrases, not just a single one.

Strategies for Improving Reputation

We provide strategies and reporting to help you begin building this important part of your business. Here is a summary of some strategies we use to begin building your site’s popularity:

  1. Focus your own internal site reputation where it needs to go – Yes, your own pages cast votes for other pages within your own web site. The way your links are structured can have a dramatic affect on a page's reputation score. Using the correct link text between your pages is critical to ranking highly for your target search phrases.
  2. Find out who is linking to your competitors – Chances are, if your competitors are listed with a particular resource such as a business web directory, then your site can be listed there as well. We can produce extensive reports for multiple competitors across multiple search engines in a simple web page format.
  3. Use strategies to find places to link to you - We’ll guide you in strategies that will help you to locate other places that will list your site. We’ll teach you to quickly evaluate whether getting a listing on a particular site is even worth your effort (Most link pages do not cast much [if any] vote for your site, especially when the vote gets split hundreds of different ways).

Building a good Reputation Score through these In-Bound links is a time-consuming process that is well worth the investment for your long-term web page success. It is an integral part of our search engine marketing strategy.

Beware!

Beware of any method of creating links to your site that seems too easy. Free For All link sites, Link Farms, programmatically generated web pages by Search Engine Marketing companies, etc. all sound like an easy way to build your popularity. The problem is, the search engines are constantly looking for ways to penalize these methods in order to keep the integrity of their results. All it takes is for one disgruntled competitor to notice your illegitimate links and your site can be banned. Your best long term strategy is always going to be acquiring your popularity the right way.

Consistently building your web traffic

We monitor your web traffic and rankings, and adjustments are made if necessary. Once your desired results have been achieved for your main keywords, you may wish to begin digging deeper into your keyword list and optimizing other pages so that you receive the benefits of free search engine traffic from those words as well.
